Incorporating Spanish in Health and Physical Education classes

Being a dual major in Health and Physical Education and Spanish Education I think it is important to combine the two when it comes to teaching. How can you combine the two if your not a dual major? Well recently I have found some great technology to help you incorporate Spanish into your Health and Physical Education classes. Since the language is growing I've discovered some great online technology tools that you can use to incoporate Spanish in your teaching such as Livemocha.com, studyspanish.com, and open culture. You can use this in your classroom by having your students use higher order thinking by counting in Spanish during their activities or naming parts of the gymnasium in Spanish and then sending them to stations in those areas so they learn the word. In Health class you can give the students key nutritional vocabulary words or in any topic that you are teaching them and give it to them in Spanish. This could keep the students interested and focused on your lesson. You also never know when you are going to have a Spanish speaking student in your class! There are many ways you and your students can learn Spanish these are just come great resources.

  1. Hola Senorita! I think it would be real cool to learn another language but when I was in high school and college (the first time) I was just too lazy to try and learn the language. I bet younger students would love to practice Spanish during Physical Education class. Students in first grade could probably teach me more Spanish than I know now. There's a Spanish speaking kid that plays basketball at the Y I work at. If I knew some Spanish I could communicate better with him, but I don't, so........

  2. Me encanta su tema! I think that if we would've used Spanish in PE classes back in the day I would've remembered a lot more and would've been interested in Spanish. Getting children to count and use it in a class they all enjoy would help them remember it better. This would be a better way to get little children interested. And sometimes taking stuff out of the classroom gets people involved in the topic.
